About SFSFC
The SF School Food Coalition grew out of a May 21, 2009 meeting at the Mission High School cafeteria, when over 60 people came together to learn more about the SFUSD school food program, and to brainstorm ideas and strategies for forging ahead with a vision for the future.
We are a coalition of parents and advocates committed to creating a school food program that connects student health, academic achievement and positive behavior to eating fresh, high quality and good tasting food from sustainable resources.
Our long-term plan focuses on the following values:
- Healthy school food as an investment in disease prevention
- Local, sustainable food procurement and seasonal menus
- Good tasting food that is culturally appropriate to the student body
- A joint effort of District administrators, City and County of San Francisco, community members, local businesses and philanthropists
- A food service operation that uses energy efficient kitchen and storage facilities, eco-transportation and logistics, recycling and composting
